Herman Gref speaks about advanced technologies of the future

CEO and Chairman of Sberbank’s Executive Board Herman Gref spoke about the most advanced technologies of the coming 5-10 years, mentioning artificial intelligence, blockchain, robot technologies, and quantum computer technologies.

“Three of these technologies are related to Sberbank. Number one is artificial intelligence, which is already the dominating technology of today. Number two is, of course, blockchain, which is our future. And the third is robot technologies. In terms of the state, I would also put quantum technologies on the top of the list in addition to the first three technologies – these are quantum computing and everything that is related to quantum sensors with quantum cryptoprotection,” he said.

Also, Mr Gref commented on Sberbank’s joining the non-commercial Enterprise Ethereum Alliance (EEA).

“We believe the Ethereum platform is one of the most advanced tools to use for applied tasks related to blockchain technology” he said. “We would like to participate in the development of this technology, the various opportunities it provides, and the implementation of these opportunities in Russia.”

“This technology may radically transform our sector. Blockchain enables operation without any centralised platform. This will have a very serious impact on our business configuration, technological framework, and business model,” added Mr Gref.

Sberbank is the first Russian bank to join the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance.

EEA was established in February 2017 to evolve Ethereum into an enterprise-grade technology. The alliance unites major international companies such as CME Group, Credit Swiss, DTCC, ING, JPMorgan, Santander, UBS, Accenture, Deloitte, Intel, Microsoft. Successful high-tech start-ups and scientific and research organizations are also members of the alliance. EEA creates innovative technologies that will help companies ensure a new level of data confidentiality and enable security and scalability.
